When will we learn?
If you google "five nuclear power plants shutdown japan" you'll get the breaking news about 5 nuclear power-stations being shut down in Japan due the earthquake that has devastated the North of the country.
The fourth item down is an article from the World Nuclear Association about how safe nuclear power stations operating in areas of seismic activity are. According to them 20% of all nuclear reactors globally are in areas of seismic activity....
Right now the government are claiming that there is no radiation leaks as a result of the earthquake, but they would say that wouldn't they? its very rare for these people to tell the truth at the time of the crisis - just remember Chernobyl. You can guarantee that it will be at least 3 months before the INES is updated to reflect this event.
According to the Financial Times the plant at Fukushima prefecture is having problems its diesel generator that is supposed to kick in for emergency power has failed.
I hope that once anti-nuke activists in Japan have managed to make themselves and their families/communities safe that they quickly on the case taking readings. As usual you can't trust a word that comes from the mouths of the nuclear industry...
My thoughts are with the Japanese people, they've been constant victims of nuclear power since WWII, now they may be having to contend with the combined wrath of nature and nuclear folly of the global minority elite - the cult of nuclearists. I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel to be dealing with the catastrophe of an earthquake and having to be worrying about whether as surviviors of that we are all being contaminated by leaky nuclear plants too.
Update
Apparently smoke has been seen coming from the turbine halls of one of the nucelar power plants that have been apparently "safely shut-down" is it possible that we may have a brand new Chernoby on our hands? After all statistically speaking it's only a matter of time.....
Sounds from the news like its the one that i referred to above whose back up generator failed. people are being told to saty in doors as a "precautionary measure" for as far as 3 km away
