government admit they have no idea exactly how much Greehouse gases are emitted from nuclear plants

The Lib-Dem bristol MP Stephen Phillips has just "discovered" what the rest of us already knew - namely that the government has no idea of the GHG* emissions associated with Nuclear reactors.

Many of us that have some idea about life cycle analysis and sustainability have been saying this for quite some time but to no avail. The government is as ever selective about which data it uses, making sure that it only utilises data that fits with it's story of the day!

It's almost inconsequential that they haven't done the analysis as the SDC** position paper on nuclear undertaken a few years ago (2006) stated quite clearly then that there are difficulties around quantifying just CO2 emissions associated with nuclear in part because the current plant was never designed with decommissioning in mind, and partly because of the uncertainty around future scenarios for nuclear waste management, not to mention the lack of data about water & energy use as well as CO2 emissions from Uranium mining transport and processing!!!
